Plan for the drive, not just the destination

The best road trips leave room for detours. Pick a route with places to stop every couple of hours, check charging or fuel points in advance, and keep a loose schedule so you can follow a good view when you see one.

Coastal routes are at their best early in the morning, before the traffic builds and while the light is soft. Mountain passes reward a later start, once any morning fog has lifted.
