Choosing Tyres for Desert Roads
Desert driving is hard on tyres: hot tarmac, loose sand and long hours at a steady speed all take their toll.
Pressure is everything
Check pressures in the cool of the morning, not after a drive. Hot tyres read higher and can hide an under-inflated tyre.
For mostly paved routes, a quality all-season tyre with a heat-resistant compound is ideal. If you'll leave the tarmac, consider an all-terrain tyre with stronger sidewalls.

Carry a full-size spare where possible, plus a compressor and a pressure gauge.
